German Soldier (World War One 1914-1918)


The German soldier or ‘Landser’ saw himself as defending the fatherland from the surrounding Entente powers (Britain, France and Russia). He wore a ‘Pickelhaube’ early in the war a decorative spiky helmet, but then used a more protective Stahlhelm later on. The German infantryman was armed with the Gewehr 98.
